Army Bay is opposite Shakespeare Regional Park (on the North side of the peninsula) which gives you two additional beach options and a pest free wildlife sanctuary with many great walking tracks and waterfalls. The Bay is at the end of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula and fifteen minutes travel time by car from the beginning of Whangaparaoa Road. Army Bay gets its name from it close proximity to one of New Zealand's Army training grounds and on training days you can hear the echo of military rounds being fired.
